RIDER SUCCESS STORIES:
From First Ride to First Place.
MEET
LINCOLN
What’s been your proudest moment or biggest achievement so far?
It gave me the opportunity to learn specific bike control that I transferred to the big bikes when I competed at NZ nationals earlier this year. I won the first round of SuperSport 150, my first ever National race then a few more podium finishes, ending the 4 round championship in 3rd place!
What advice would you give to other young riders who are thinking about giving MiniGP a go?
Do it! It is so much fun and gives you such an adrenaline rush.
What’s your ultimate goal with MiniGP – are you aiming for a career in motorsport?
These bikes give me seat time at a 10th of the cost of the big bikes. My ultimate goal is to ride MotoAmerica, and these bikes are going to help me get there. Not only does it save me money on training, but will sharpen my skills for the big time.
What first got you interested in MiniGP racing, and how did you get started?
I only started racing last year! It’s been crazy. I went to the MotoGP in Australia a couple years ago and started looking up the riders, they use miniGP for training so I thought I’d give it a go.
How has racing MiniGP helped you grow as a rider, both on and off the track?
Riding for me has been a way to maintain focus. I struggle with my ADHD, and it gives me the opportunity to ride in a safe but fast environment for a fraction of the price! I get to ride whenever I want locally and don’t have to wait for the big tracks to have expensive track days maybe once every few months.
What is the MiniGP community like?
It’s so chill and inviting. Everyone is so helpful and gives you support and advice no matter what you race. I’ve found some of my best friends at the track. You also have the opportunity to ride with the top NZ Super Bike riders and benefit from their experience.
what bike would you recommend for a beginner rider?
I had a Suzuki RM65 growing up so I knew how to change gears. This meant I could go straight in with the 190cc Daytona, which has manual gearing. I’m also 6ft 3 so I needed the 12”. But someone as young as 6 years old and 1m tall can start on the 10” 110cc automatic! If they can ride a push bike, they can ride a MiniGP!
